What About Your Resolutions?

February is here.  I am not sure where January went, but we are now into the second month of 2010.  Like most people, I made some New Year’s Resolutions.  Did you?  I created a pretty good mix of business and personal resolutions.  Here is a sampling:

  1. Start my blog
  2. Work on personal branding
  3. Complete the Body for Life Challenge
  4. Build a stronger spiritual life
  5. Increase the profit from my business
  6. Develop more income streams

That is actually more than a sampling; those are all of my resolutions.  Now that we are more than a month into the new year, I can assess my progress.  I obviously started my blog :-) .  That has been going pretty good.  There is so much for me to do in this area, but I am working diligently; learning as I go.  The personal branding is coming along but not as fast as I had hoped.  This is mostly because I haven’t put a lot of time behind it.  The Body for Life Challenge has been put off twice.  I am supposed to be starting on Monday, February 8.  I will keep you posted on my progress.  The last three resolutions have been pushed to the back burner and there is no excuse for this.  I haven’t allocated enough time and #4 is especially important.  I have to find ways to give this resolution priority.

How do I move forward and still accomplish what I set out to accomplish?

The first thing I am going to do is make a new commitment to achieve these goals.  A New Year’s Resolutions is set at the beginning of the year, but a year is a long time and sometimes we have to declare our commitment to our goals more than once.  So, that is what I will do first; re-commit to the goals that I set for myself.

After I have reaffirmed my commitment, I need to actually make a plan.  This is where I fail most years.  I don’t transfer the goals to a time management tool.  It’s great that I want to develop additional income streams, but if I never set aside time to develop them they will never develop.  This isn’t going to happen by itself.  This is one of the most important parts for me.  Because I don’t have a lot of free time and my kids and husband can keep me busy all the time, I have to schedule the time that I will dedicate to my own goals.  I need to get up before my kids and get some of my things done.  This is a challenge for me, but if I map out a plan, it will be easier.

Once I have the plan in place, I am going to have to bear down and make it happen.  This will probably involve doing things I don’t like, such as getting up early in the morning.  Once I start accomplishing my goals, however, the early rising will be more than worth it.

If you have resolutions that don’t look like they are going to happen this year, you can do this too.

  • Assess
  • Re-Commit
  • Plan
  • Make it Happen

I am sure that, like me, you will probably have to do some things that you really don’t want to do.  I am also sure that you will be so glad that you worked through the unpleasant things once you start achieving your goals.

Tell me a little bit about your resolutions.  Are they personal or business related?  Do you need to re-commit to achieving your goals this year?

Let’s make this our best year yet!  We can do it!  And it will be easier together :-)
